There are two recent ISP updates and deliverability news email marketers will want to be aware of.
Vodafone Email Closure
Yes, another email closure.
First Orange email, then Terra, and now Vodafone will close their email services on 30 November 2017.
Vodafone, a New Zealand-based ISP providing mobile, broadband, and television services has decided to close their email service because of ongoing issues and their outdated platform.
They have suggested that current email customers switch to a free email provider such as Gmail or Outlook.com and use Vodafone’s free auto-forwarding process to send mail to the new address.
Now is a good time to reach out to subscribers that have the following domains listed below to get their updated email address.
Below are the recipient domains that will be shut down as of November 30:
- clear.net.nz
- es.co.nz
- ihug.co.nz
- paradise.net.nz
- pcconnect.co.nz
- quik.co.nz
- vodafone.co.nz
- vodafone.net.nz
- wave.co.nz
Time Warner Cable and Road Runner Feedback Loop Discontinued
Beginning October 19, 2017, Time Warner Cable’s feedback loop was discontinued. A feedback loop (FBL) is a process where complaint data is submitted back to the sender if the recipient has marked the email as spam.
Time Warner Cable (and Road Runner) will therefore no longer allow New FBLs to be configured. They will discontinue submitting reports back to the sender.
This means that complaint data from recipients at TWC or RR domains will no longer be received by our system and be unsubscribed. Example domains affected by this include .rr.com, twc.com, adelphia.net and roadrunner.com.
Now that TWC complaints are no longer being received, it is even more important for senders to suppress anyone from their lists who are not actively engaged and provide a clear and easy unsubscribe mechanism.
It is possible that TWC is still collecting complaint data from their users. This could consequently impact your reputation as a sender.
Another thing to note is that TWC/RR services was acquired by Charter Communications which now provides Spectrum TV, internet, and voice services to old TWC customers. It is possible there will be additional changes to follow with these recipient domains.
What Email Marketers Need to Do
- Ask existing Vodafone recipient domains to update their new emails in your database. As a result, prepare for suppression of messages to these domains come December.
- To minimize complaints, make doubly sure that your communications have a conspicuous unsubscribe link. Also, be sure that you are sending to engaged recipients from whom you have obtained consent to receive email.
